Silver Fox (Vulpes vulpes)

Silver fox is a pioneer in the fur industry – the vast popularity of silver fox pelts was a major incentive for starting fur farming in the first place. In Finland, the breeding of silver foxes began as early as 1910 onwards.

Silver fox is a melanistic form of red fox. While its fur was originally nearly black, selective breeding has resulted in a strongly silver-toned variant.

In addition to the black and silvery grey variants, there are also red, white and brown foxes on the farms.
