Fur farming is a significant economic activity in Finland and one of the country's most important export industries. It is of major economic importance particularly in rural and scarcely populated areas.
Finland has since long emphasized the importance of responsible and sustainable breeding. The Finnish fur sector firmly believes that wellbeing of the animals and the environment is a precondition for the wellbeing of the Finnish fur sector.
At the end of 2018, there were around 800 fur farms operating in Finland in approximately 900 locations, and most of them are family businesses. Approximately 95% of Finnish fur farms are located in the Ostrobothnia region.
